The Importance of Recalibrating

Recalibrating after an event or holiday is important in order to regain balance, perspective, and emotional well-being. Carl Jung believed that people either recharge themselves in solitude (introverts) or socially (extroverts). While some of us may feel energized by a change, others will feel depleted - this is because we are all wired differently! Recalibrating allows you to process any difficult emotions, re-center yourself, and move forward in a healthier and more productive way.

Here are some steps that can be taken to recalibrate yourself:
1. Give yourself time to rest and decompress: Take a break and relax. Allow yourself time to recharge and recover from the event. Think about what "rest" means to you and the ways you take time for yourself.
2. Reflect on the experience: Think about what you learned from the event, what went well, and what could have been handled differently. Reflecting on the experience can help you gain insight and perspective so you can make adjustments in the future.
3. Practice self-care: Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Make sure you are getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, setting boundaries, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
4. Talk to someone: Share your thoughts and feelings with a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. Talking about your experience can help you process your emotions and gain a new perspective.
5. Practice mindfulness and meditation: Take time to be present in the moment. Notice when you feel out of balance, depleted, or overwhelmed. This gives you a quick baseline that can be used as a reference point. Practicing mindfulness or meditation throughout the day can also help you quiet your mind, reduce stress, and increase self-awareness.
6. Don't forget to laugh! Laughter helps to release tension, reduce stress, and improve our overall mood. When we laugh, our bodies release endorphins which can help to improve our mental and emotional well-being. Laughter also helps us gain a different perspective on our problems and challenges, allowing us to potentially approach them with a lighter and more positive attitude.
7. Seek support: If you are struggling to find balance, don't hesitate to seek professional help. A therapist or counsellor can provide guidance and support as you navigate through your emotions and experiences.
