CREATIVELY RECHARGING
If you share my experience, you have likely encountered the fluctuating nature of creativity. When you feel drained, mentally blocked, or utterly exhausted, it becomes challenging to muster up the motivation to transform your ideas into reality—or sometimes, to recall that you had ideas in the first place! Given that creativity is a skill that requires regular practice, it is vital to grant yourself the opportunity to replenish and rediscover that part of yourself.
Here are a few ways that I’ve found help me reset and bring creativity back into my life:
1.) Go to the theater, visit a museum or art gallery and be immersed in the performing arts
2.) Get outside and hike trails, explore a waterfall, or visit a public garden like the ones at the RBG. Or, just sit outside and notice the sights, sounds, and sensations around you - this is a great way to recharge and let your brain rest
3.) Listen to a favourite podcast or audiobook
4.) Romanticize your life ~ this is the act of paying attention, being present, and acknowledging and appreciating the small, simple — but when put all together, important — parts of your life. It’s not an aesthetic, but rather a shift in perspective, a way of looking at life that makes it more enjoyable. It’s a form of mindfulness that helps us to look at life with gratitude
5.) Do an activity you loved as a kid ~ maybe this is colouring, crafting, or taking time to look at the clouds. What shapes do you see? Use your imagination!
6.) Learn a new piece of music on an instrument you love playing (or, learn a musical instrument you've always wanted to try)
7.) Cook/Bake a favorite recipe — or try a new one!
8.) Take a dance class. Move your body and learn something new all at once or dance at home — dance around your living room, or have a dance party with your roommate(s), partner, or even your pets
9.) Go to bed consistently and have a morning and night routine. Sleep helps us recharge — and that includes recharging our creativity
10.) Join a group with fellow creatives (this could be an art class, a pottery class, a book club...) or start your own!
11.) Try putting away your phone for a set amount of time. Being present opens us up to our thoughts
